Zach Moore

Peninsula High School senior a talented musician, athlete and scholar who aims for his best

Published: 01:08PM April 29th, 2009

Zach Moore is a well-rounded student who has excelled at academics as well as athletics and music. He hopes to explore a career path that combines his music skills and newfound passion for business.

Moore started playing the trumpet when he was in sixth grade through the music program in middle school and through private lessons. In high school, he’s been a member of three bands — symphonic, jazz and marching — and he’s played in the pit orchestra for the school’s production of Cinderella. Moore also has traveled to Hawaii to perform.

In addition, Moore plays the guitar and has been creating his own music.

To be a member of the Peninsula jazz band, Moore has to be at school at 6:25 every morning, in addition to practicing at home. He said he’s honored to have been invited to Pacific Lutheran University’s Honor Band.

“I want to keep music a part of my life,” he said.

Moore joined DECA last year and has been fascinated by business ever since. He competed at a state competition and traveled with the club to New York City this year.

Moore’s kept a busy schedule not only by being in several school organizations but also with two sports teams, football and baseball. His athletic achievements include earning all-league honors twice in football.

Moore also has dedicated time to community service as well as being a leader at school, including serving as section leader in all three bands.

“Zach is always working to better himself and his peers,” Peninsula High School Principal Tim Winter said. “He sets high standards for himself, and these personal values help make him a person to which people are naturally drawn.”

Moore said his highest achievement is his involvement with a variety of opportunities while doing his best in all of them.

“I’ve been very busy all the time,” he said. “I like a lot of the things I do, and I want to continue doing it — I like an opportunity to learn.”

He said keeping that busy schedule has helped him succeed academically.

“It’s easiest to get good grades while doing all this, because I have to keep very busy and organized.”

Moore said he hasn’t decided on a college major, but he plans to explore various options that combine his talents and passions.

“No matter what activity is going on, Zach can be counted on to do his best and always have a smile on his face,” Winter said.
