WE RECEIVED a call last week from state Rep. Larry Seaquist, D-Gig Harbor, who was concerned about the painting of cables on the new Narrows Bridge. Worried about how it might affect tollpayers — would the expense be taken from toll account? — Seaquist set up a meeting with the state Department of Transportation.
Turns out, the paint was under warranty, so the financial burden lies with the contractor.
While the end result wasn’t a cause for alarm, we appreciate Seaquist’s watchful eye. He and state Sen. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, have worked diligently with WSDOT and the Legislature on controlling expenses, especially when they are passed on to those of us who cross the bridge on a regular basis at the toll booth.
Peninsula residents avoided a toll increase this past summer thanks in part to the two legislators and their work on the bond repayment schedule.
If there’s a way to save us money on the bridge, Seaquist and Kilmer will find it.
