Time to think about dog park

Published: 01:24PM June 10th, 2009

THEY closed Stone Drive this week to complete the new tunnel that will take drivers under the Tacoma Narrows Airport’s safety landing zone. The multi-million dollar project was required by the Federal Aviation Administrion.

Once that project completes, Pierce County can get started on other improvements for the 567 acres it purchased from the City of Tacoma.

Chief among those should be an off-leash dog park. For years, local residents used to walk their dogs in the area north of Stone Drive now being transformed into the safety zone. The real dust-up with Tacoma began when they fenced that area off and kicked dog owners out of the unofficial off-leash area.

The County Council is creating a 10-member TNA Advisory Commission to plan the future developments of the airport property. We hope that group will put an off-leash park at the top of their to-do list.
