Crescent Creek Park woodcarving, fence are works of art

July 9, 2014

Citizens of this community should take look at Crescent Creek Park on Vernhardson Street. The woodcarving is world class, and paid for by funds approved by the Arts Commission and the donation of half the labor by the artist JMS Wood Sculpture. The new play structure at the park is also an outstanding piece of work, thanks to a group of citizen volunteers working hard at fundraising lead by Stephanie Payne, Parks Commission Chair, with some funds from the City of Gig Harbor.

Also not to be overlooked is the fencing around the play structure and the woodcarving done by the City of Gig Harbor Public Works employees. During my career working with cities, I have not seen an employee group as talented as this city’s public works employees. Ranging back to 1987, take a look at the quality of work completed on both the cedar fence around the woodcarving and the fence around the play structure. Both are in their own right very artful, saving many dollars compared to bidding this work out to a fencing company. Nice work, fellows.
