Robbie and Lindsay Canter stand outside their new RcMEDIA storefront, located at 3202 Harborview Drive. The photography business specializes in wedding and high school senior portrait shoots.

Robbie and Lindsay Canter turned their photography passion into a career, launching RcMEDIA Photography two years ago. The company specializes in wedding shoots and high school senior portraits, among other things. The couple had been working from home and growing the business rapidly, meeting clients at coffee shops before they decided to open a studio.

Their business now resides at 3202 Harborview Drive, and has been open since Halloween, but has been without signage until recently. Now, the signs are up and it’s publicly open.

“We wanted to get everything 100 percent done before we made a public appearance,” Robbie Canter said.

It’s that kind attention and commitment to detail that Canter, 28, said he believes defines the photography company.

“From the start we wanted to offer a better product, a better experience, a better brand,” Canter said. “RcMEDIA is a full-service studio. We don’t just hand over a CD with ‘pics’ written on it in Sharpie after the amazing photo shoot we just had with you. We offer the world’s best prints and canvases, prints on metal, acrylic glass or wood, and the nicest photo albums around. We even personally, hand built custom wooden boxes for each one.”

The company plans on having a grand opening celebration as early as next month, but a very busy wedding season has made it hard to pin down an exact date. The pair employ one other person and are in the process of hiring a fourth. While the signs haven’t been up until recently, the couple has already felt the financial benefits of moving into the downtown Gig Harbor core.

“Since opening the studio, business has bloomed,” Canter said. “Being downtown has really helped us. Everyone walking by, everyone knows where we are. It’s been huge. From now until the end of October, every single weekend is booked with weddings.”

The company has a studio set up at its site, but prefers to do on-site shooting and take advantage of landscapes and unique architecture.

“I think (shooting) inside is boring,” Canter said. “We always like to do it on location. It gives us something fresh.”

They shoot in the Gig Harbor area, Tacoma, and sometimes Seattle. Meetings are by appointment, which prospective clients can set up over the phone at 253-225-2497 or through the website,

Both Robbie and Lindsay have had work published in Shutter Magazine, and the exposure has only helped business.

Canter said their approach sets them apart.

“People don’t only hire us for a good time,” Canter said. “They hire us to capture their best and favorite memories. We get to watch some of the most important moments of people’s lives with them. We become close friends with our clients. I think that’s really cool to see those friendships.”
