Costco Kidz Fair to return for 2014

Special to the GatewayMay 21, 2014

Gig Harbor Costco Kidz Fair is 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 31 and promises to be bigger and better than last year’s event.

Costco is staging the second annual Kidz Fair from 9:30 a.m. through 3 p.m on May 31 at its Gig Harbor campus, 10990 Harbor Hill Drive. The free community event will be held in the northeast corner of the parking lot, across from Big 5 Sporting Goods.

“Our event last year focused on communicating activities and services in the community that are geared towards the health and safety of children,” explained Costco’s Cheryl Johnson. “It was a great success so we decided to do it again this year.”

Last year, the Gig Harbor Police Department had a patrol car on site with Explorer Scouts in uniform and DNA kits for the kids. There were demonstrations of fencing, gymnastics and hula dancing. Home Depot held its Saturday workshop at Kidz Fair. A vacation bible school with a western theme gave kids an opportunity to try out lassoing skills and other fun activities. Kayak Club, CrossFit Kids and Discovery Village also had booths.

“This year we have these (events) and so much more,” Johnson said. “Tell all your friends and family to enjoy this free community event.”
