Watch your cell phone bill for city taxes, even if you’re not in the city

May 7, 2014

To all of you who own a cell phone and live outside Gig Harbor city limits, check your bills. I did last week and found I was being charged $1.65 per month for a Gig Harbor City tax. I called my carrier and explained that I live outside city limits, cannot vote in elections and am not subject to a Gig Harbor city tax on my cell phone. They called me back and agreed that this was a mistake and there would be an adjustment to my billing, with a credit for past collections. We should all be aware that this tax gets charged because of our mailing address and unless you make a fuss. The City of Gig Harbor has benefitted from collection of this tax from those of us who are NOT residents.
