Orci Marketing Group is making a splash.
The company’s main business right now is providing sign spinners for companies.
“It’s a combination of street performance and brand promotion,” said owner Eddie Fernandes. “It’s been really effective.”
Orci specializes in marketing and promotion. Fernandes said “Orci” is Latin for “gorilla.” It’s a play on the term guerilla marketing.
With signs, Orci hopes to cut through traditional marketing. Fernandes said, in this day and age, some people pay ad blockers to cut out online advertising.
The sign spinners are trained by Orci and sent out to promote businesses such as real estate companies.
“It’s been picking up for the last couple months, especially since the weather’s getting better,” Fernandes said.
Fernandes is a Peninsula High School graduate, Class of 2005. After finishing school and starting a family in Florida, he moved back to his hometown. His children, a boy and a girl, are 4 and 2 years old.
“To raise a family here and to start a business here ... has always been a dream,” Fernandes said.
He got into sign spinning when he was working for a marketing company that was helping market urgent care centers. He wanted sign spinners, but couldn’t find a company that trained and provided them. So he did the work himself.
Orci isn’t just about sign spinning. The company also provides digital marketing services such as web development and social media. Some sign packages come with a social media tie-in to promote the business on Twitter and Facebook.
Orci can provide signs for any business or industry. For example, a trucking company that is looking to hire drivers wants sign spinners at the Port of Tacoma and the Port of Seattle, Fernandes said. It’s about finding customers where customers are likely to be found.
Fernandes said the business is moving to an office off Wollochet Drive soon.
