Health expert to keynote free wellness seminars

April 9, 2014

Heron’s Key, a retirement community coming to Gig Harbor, will sponsor free wellness seminars featuring Joe Piscatella, one of the country’s leading experts on lifestyle and heart health.

The seminars will take place April 17 in Pierce County. The first is scheduled for 10 a.m. at University Place Presbyterian Church near Tacoma. The second will be at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor.

The seminars will be centered on how to prepare for a healthy retirement. Piscatella has studied lifestyle habits around the world and informs people how they can maximize not only their longevity, but also the amount of healthy, active years in retirement. Piscatella, a Gig Harbor resident, became an expert on healthy living after he had an emergency open-heart bypass surgery when he was 32. The doctors didn’t expect him to live long afterward. He made lifestyle changes and is now the longest-living survivor of bypass surgery in the world.

Piscatella has written 13 best-selling books, been a guest on The Today Show, CNN, Fox News and Good Morning America, and he’s served as president of the Institute of Fitness & Health.
