A former teacher announced her bid for the 26th Legislative District state Senate seat on Monday.
Democrat Judy Arbogast of Ollala will challenge incumbent Sen. Jan Angel, R-Port Orchard.
Angel beat incumbent Nathan Schlicher, D-Gig Harbor, for the seat last November. It set records for spending in a state election.
“Last year our community saw a brutal partisan fight in the race for state Senate,” Arbogast stated in a news release. “We saw a lot of special interests come into our district and try to buy our votes. I think that was wrong, and I think we can do better.”
Schlicher announced last week he will challenge Rep. Jesse Young, R-Gig Harbor, for a seat in the state House.
Arbogast said she wants to halt partisan bickering in Olympia. She said she will stand for the community, not special interests.
Arbogast taught in the South Kitsap School District for more than 30 years. She recently retired. During her tenure, she was the president of the South Kitsap teachers’ union.Karen Miller: 253-358-4155 karen.miller @gateline.com Twitter: @gateway_karen
