Auditions are coming up for the fifth annual Gig Harbor Star Search, presented by the Gig Harbor Kiwanis Club. At stake is a $500 prize.

The event will benefit the Kiwanis Foundation and its programs throughout the year.

Auditions are open for those 16 and older. Fundraising chair Jeni Mallory said the auditions will take about 15 minutes. That includes time for photos, information about the event and a performance.

“We make it very professional,” Mallory said.

Soloists, singers, instrumentalists, bands and duos are welcome to apply, Mallory said.

The event draws people from the greater Tacoma area.

“They come from all over,” Mallory said.

To book an audition time slot, call Mallory at 253-691-7085. Auditions will be held on:

 • April 19

 • April 26

 • May 3

 • May 17

A committee of judges will select the top 10 from the audition pool. The Star Search concert will be held May 31 at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club.

The top 10 selected through auditions will perform, and a panel of judges will narrow the field to three. Once those three perform again, the audience will choose the winner, Mallory said.

The headlining event at the yacht club will feature refreshments and a no-host bar. Proceeds will go to projects such as Gear Up for School and Camp Beausite.

“It’s quite an evening of entertainment,” Mallory said.
