Final County Council shoreline plan meeting set for April 3

Pierce County Council member, District 3March 26, 2014

We are nearing the final phases necessary to engage the public with the Shoreline Master Program (SMP), before we bring it to Pierce County Council for a final vote.

The ordinance is a product of past councils, county staff members, the state Department of Ecology and planning committees. It is extremely detailed and has created more questions for property owners than answers.

Despite notices having been sent, there are scores of property owners who live on or near shorelines and are completely unaware of the program, let alone the mandates it prescribes.

At 5:30 p.m. April 3, the County Council will hold its final, in-district public hearing at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. It is important that you attend and share your position on the SMP. If you cannot attend, please elect to register your position online at Click on the Comment on Legislation button near the upper right corner.

The Peninsula Gateway is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
