We are nearing the final phases necessary to engage the public with the Shoreline Master Program (SMP), before we bring it to Pierce County Council for a final vote.
The ordinance is a product of past councils, county staff members, the state Department of Ecology and planning committees. It is extremely detailed and has created more questions for property owners than answers.
Despite notices having been sent, there are scores of property owners who live on or near shorelines and are completely unaware of the program, let alone the mandates it prescribes.
At 5:30 p.m. April 3, the County Council will hold its final, in-district public hearing at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. It is important that you attend and share your position on the SMP. If you cannot attend, please elect to register your position online at councilonline.co.pierce.wa.us/councilonline/proposal/proposal.htm?proposal_num=2013-45s.
