Downtown Gig Harbor will host a Thursday Night Out event on the second Thursday of each month starting in April.

With the tagline “meet me on the waterfront,” the events are designed to bring people downtown. More than 40 businesses plan to participate, along with many restaurants and art galleries.

The first Thursday Night Out will be from 5 to 8 p.m. April 10.

Following the success of the annual Girls’ Night Out event in November, the Downtown Waterfront Alliance looked for a way to take the concept and transform it into a recurring event.

The DWA, which is organizing Thursday Night Out, is planning a shuttle, live performers and more. It’s a way to increase awareness of local businesses, Josh Sherwin, the alliance’s special projects coordinator, wrote in an email.

“We want to showcase the downtown waterfront, the special shops you may not have visited, our local musicians, our original artists and celebrate what is happening here,” said Gary Glein, board president of the Downtown Waterfront Alliance.

The art galleries will shift their monthly art walk from Saturdays to Thursdays in order to be part of the event.

“We want to make sure our loyal group of Artwalkers come to Thursday Night Out,” Gallery Row co-op member Brad Stave wrote in an email.

Entertainment will vary from month to month. The alliance is looking for local musicians to participate. Those who are interested can email
