Interim Key Peninsula fire chief has diverse background

Interim fire chief Key Peninsula Fire District 16February 26, 2014

I’m sure the word is out that there has been a change at fire chief for the Key Peninsula Fire Department. I’m writing to assure everyone that the fire district will continue to deliver fire and medical aid services with an excellent staff of firefighters, medics, tender operators and support staff.

My name is Guy Allen, and I have more than 33 years of experience in the fire service. My first position with Key Peninsula Fire was as a shift lieutenant in May 1999. It was later reclassified to shift captain as the department grew in personnel.

Through several promotions, I filled the long-term vacancy at assistant fire chief in January 2012, and immediately following the departure of Fire Chief Tom Lique, the Board of Commissioners appointed me to fill the interim fire chief position on Jan. 28.

The board is committed to filling the position with the best candidate they can find during a hiring process that will take the next nine to 12 months to complete. If that ends up being me, I will continue to serve and lead this organization with the same character and values I have demonstrated since the beginning. If they select someone else, I will support that person in every way possible.

I also want to thank those who have given me support and encouragement during the past three weeks. I am humbled by your confidence in me and assure everyone that every decision I make will have the best interests of the fire district and community in mind.
