U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer invites local high school students to participate in the Congressional Art Competition.

The nationwide competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent. It is open to high school students who live in the 6th district, which spans from the Narrows bridges to Grays Harbor county and the north Olympic Peninsula.

“The arts can be a catalyst in having students think creatively and giving students the opportunity to excel,” Kilmer said.

Works may be up to 28 inches by 28 inches, including the frame, and may be up to 4 inches in depth.

Students can submit their work for consideration any time before noon April 10. It can be taken to any of Kilmer’s district offices:

 • 950 Pacific Ave., Suite 1230, Tacoma

 • 345 6th Ave., Suite 500, Bremerton
