Municipal court to have an armed guard

February 12, 2014

New procedures have been implemented to improve security at the Gig Harbor Municipal Court, located at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St.

An armed police officer will screen all individuals who enter the courtroom. The detection of prohibited objects will be accomplished by the use of electronic wands, pat-down searches and bag searches. Purses and briefcases will be allowed in the courtroom but are subject to search. Backpacks are not allowed.

Individuals who have weapons or other prohibited items will be refused entry and asked to leave the building.

The city has asked for patience during the transition process because there may be some delays when people enter the courtroom.
