Comprehensive plan to focus on ‘Harbor’

January 29, 2014

The Gig Harbor Planning Commission is looking for input on a new chapter of the city’s comprehensive plan.

The commission will hold an open house from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Gig Harbor Civic Center. A public hearing will follow the open house.

Named “The Harbor,” the latest chapter in the plan is the culmination of a vision for downtown that was developed in 2012. The chapter is a collection of policies and goals for the next 20 years. It sets 17 goals for the area, with examples being bay views, public access and historic preservation.

According to the Harbor Vision in the drafted plan, “the Harbor is a place where people live, work, play, shop and explore.”

Once adopted, the goals will become part of the overall plan. A draft of the chapter is available at www.gigharborplanning.com.

Public comment will open at 6 p.m. Each person will have three minutes to speak. Written input can be sent via email to senior planner Lindsey Sehmel at sehmell@ cityofgigharbor.net.
