PSD winter break kicks off with snow, late start

December 25, 2013

Snowfall last Friday meant a two-hour late start for the Peninsula Schools District. It was the first snow of the season.

The late start came on the last day before the district went on winter break, giving students a short day. The district will resume classes Jan. 3.

To determine school closures in the event of an extreme weather condition, the superintendent and transportation staff members drive the emergency bus routes about 3 a.m. The drive encompasses all of the district’s 120 square miles. Weather information is discussed with the transportation department and neighboring districts.

The district’s size means weather changes depend on the area, according the district’s website.

SchoolMessenger notifies parents by phone of any change in schedule. The district also operates an emergency line at 253-530-1088 and posts updates on the web at
