Fatal house fire

December 18, 2013

D ec. 4 — Multiple engine companies, medic units, and additional fire department personnel were dispatched before midnight to a house fire on Fox Island. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully involved in flames with three of five family members, the mother and two children, outside the home. They were later treated and transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries resulting from escaping the fire. Firefighters tried to make entry into the burning home to rescue the other two family members, an 8-year-old girl, and her father. Firefighters were pushed back by intense heat and fire. The father and the child perished in the fire. The investigation by Pierce County Fire Marshal’s office continues in determining the cause of the tragic fire.
