In honor of Veterans Day, special programs will be held Monday.
The second annual “Thank You Veterans” program will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 7700 Skansie Ave., Gig Harbor. The program will honor and recognize veterans and raise money for Freedom Heroes USA.
Complimentary tickets are available at the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce, or at the church office. The free tickets are required as a way to RSVP, event organizer Janet Vitcovich said. There are about 200 tickets available.
The speaker will be Allysa Lynhart, the founder of Freedom Heroes USA. The event will be hosted by “A Blessing to Serve” — a local nonprofit that provides rides around town for those who are unable to drive.
Money is raised for Freedom Heroes USA through sponsored tables. A table for 10 is available for a $100 donation. The next levels are Patriot sponsor for $250 and Hero sponsor for $500. Sponsors will have their family or company name on the program and at the table.
The tables will be decorated by A Blessing to Serve, but sponsors are encouraged to bring pictures of loved ones who are current or former military members.
In addition, Boy Scout Troop 282 and the Gig Harbor Elks Lodge 2560 will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at Skansie Brothers Park. The Boy Scout troop will perform a flag ceremony, and U.S. Army Capt. Michael Ratcliffe will be the guest speaker.
There will be a color guard and a 21-gun salute performed by the Boy Scout Honor Guard, and there will be bagpipes and a flag-retirement ceremony.
