As I grew up, I had the privilege of obtaining an education in a pubic school system. I went on to college, obtained a master’s degree and my CPA certification. None of it would have been possible without a strong foundation in my education, starting in elementary school.
After I completed my education, I decided I would not have children, but would travel instead. However, things change. I joined the generation of older moms when I was 38, and I had the last of my three children when I was 42.
Why is that relevant? Because during the period when I thought I would not have children, I never once voted “no” on a ballot measure that asked me to support school district measures. I recognized that, while I may not have children in the public school system, they are our future. They will run our businesses. They will run Congress. They will design our new technology. They will run our economy.
We have to believe in our future and invest in it, just like our parents and neighbors believed in us. It all starts in elementary school. Nearly every one of us took advantage of the opportunity to get a free, quality education.
Don’t forget the kids who are in school now simply because you don’t have children in the system. Please vote to support our schools.
