The School of Magical Strings will offer classes in Celtic harp this fall in Olalla. The term will run for five weeks through the second week of November.
The classes will begin Oct. 15 at Magic Hill Studio on the Kitsap Peninsula, 10 minutes from the Southworth ferry dock. The beginning class will meet from 6 to 7:25 p.m., and the intermediate class will meet from 7:35 to 9 p.m.
The method of instruction is based on learning by ear, with basic music theory developed as the course progresses. The cost is $150, plus a $10 registration fee. Harps are available for rent or purchase from the instructor, Philip Boulding.
Boulding and his wife, Pam, make up the internationally known Northwest duo Magical Strings. For the past 30 years, they have built instruments, taught classes and provided Celtic and original music to audiences throughout the Northwest and on tours across the nation and abroad.
