The Gig Harbor Tides sought perfection Friday night, and they almost got it.
Sterling Brown rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns, and Connor Scanlan passed for 189 yards and a score as Gig Harbor (4-1 overall, 2-0 Narrows 4A) steamrolled Mount Tahoma 56-6 at Roy Anderson Field.
The Tides' up-tempo offense was too much for the Thunderbirds (0-5, 0-2 Narrows 3A), and Gig Harbor's defense surrendered just 139 total yards. Tides senior Danny Youngren intercepted a pass and blocked a punt to key his team's fourth straight win.
"This week, our opponent was ourselves," Gig Harbor head coach Aaron Chantler said. "We focused on executing and trying to be as perfect as possible. We wanted to limit our mental mistakes and play good, fundamental Tides football."
Gig Harbor didn't waste a possession. The Tides scored touchdowns on every trip but the one that led to the final whistle. The only blemishes were the 10 penalties that cost them 70 yards.
Meanwhile, Gig Harbor compiled 487 yards, 271 rushing, and it led 42-0 at halftime.
"It's nice to have a night like that offensively," Chantler said.
