Seeing some signs around Gig Harbor about the Peninsula School District levy that are alarming you? Warning: they are misleading. If this levy passes, property taxes will only go up about 10 percent.
I’m very concerned that people don’t realize the truth and will vote based on wrong information. Here are some of the facts that convinced me to support this levy:
Did you know that there more than 700 new homes and apartments being built in Gig Harbor North and Purdy Elementary school is already overcrowded to the point where there is nowhere to put new residents? Purdy is designed for 550 students, and there are currently more than 700 students enrolled. These students are placed in 20 classrooms and 12 portables.
Did you know that, when it rains, Artondale Elementary literally has buckets scattered all through the building to collect water from its leaky roof? That, among many other issues, has caused Artondale to be marked as an unsafe environment for kids.
Did you know that, if a terrible situation like Sandy Hook occurred, we have no way to lock down Artondale? As a parent, that scares me and makes me extremely uncomfortable.
This levy isn’t just a small line item on the ballot that you can ignore, it’s something that can truly change our community for the better. These kids are our future and deserve this investment. The passing of this levy isn’t optional, it’s an urgent need for the health and welfare of our community.
