School levies represent an investment- in children’s education, in property values, and in your community.
I respect many see this levy as “another tax”, coming from a source that “could manage better” and “learn to do more with less”. Yet this district’s staff and school board represent the epitome of doing just that. They have managed to be a highly rated Washington state school district, while accepting pay cuts and operating on half the taxation of neighboring districts. These are facts I hope all of you analyze prior to making your vote. I appreciate the opposition’s request to scrutinize the budget but if you look at all the numbers and the fact that it has been 24 years since any capital improvements have been made, it is clear there is no time to tighten the belt further.
This levy will provide critical building in a growing district, allow for important security measures to help prevent a tragedy like Sandy Hook and help with fields that many in the community utilize. And, ultimately, it will ensure that this district remains highly rated and attracts those looking to purchase homes in the area. This levy will do all this while still keeping our tax rates the lowest in all of Pierce County.
Gig Harbor and the surrounding areas are part of a larger community, one that I value living in. I care about the future of this community. I encourage you to review all the information and be an informed voter.
Please consider investing in this community with me.
