Today was a great day to be outside. After work, I was spreading beauty bark in the yard, and so was my next-door neighbor.
We started talking and complaining about the local economy, taxes, interest rates and real estate values. He then surprised me by saying both he and his wife are going to vote “yes” for the Peninsula School District capital levy in November. He is retired, has no kids in school, and they live on a fixed income.
Why would they vote for the levy? He said the school levy is not a tax. It is an investment he makes in his house value. A brand-new school in the area will bring in new families who will look to buy his house. As he spread bark in his yard, he said he just spent $400 for the bark. The school levy would not cost as much and will help increase his home value by thousands, much more than the beauty bark.
I am convinced. I will vote “yes” for the Peninsula School District levy in November.
