A Gig Harbor life care center has received a five-star rating on a national level.
Cottesmore of Life Care earned the rating based on a system used by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Care centers are judged based on health inspections, staffing and quality measures, which include pain management, pressure ulcers, weight loss and medications used.
The rating system helps the public choose a care center.
“It’s exciting to get the rating,” Executive Director Jonathan Ashley said.
Cottesmore has increased staff training, which has helped its rating, Ashely said. Staff members go through an orientation when they start at the facility and also participate in competency fairs throughout their career at the facility.
“It makes the staff feel good about where they work,” Ashley said.
Cottesmore of Life Care was the 2012 Facility of the Year in a parent company Life Care Centers of America’s Northwest Division, chosen by The Joint Commission. Cottesmore is a nursing and rehab facility through Life Care Centers of America. There are 17 facilities in Washington under Life Care Centers of America.
“It’s a good feeling working for a great company,” Ashley said.
