There is a proposal before the Gig Harbor City Council that would change the zoning on Harborview Drive to allow for 27-foot, two-story, flat-roof buildings.
What we know for sure:
• “the city council will be allowing larger developers to enter into a development agreement to allow for more gross floor area, etc.” This is a direct quote from the Gig Harbor Planning Commission minutes from Feb. 7, 2013.
• The Planning Commission was not going to do any mockups in the proposed zoning area because it would scare everyone. (Planning Commission minutes, Jan. 17, 2013). You can find mockups of both sides of Harborview Drive at https://www.facebook.com/Citizens4ThePreservationOfGHWaterfront.
• Two-story, flat-roof buildings on both sides of Harborview Drive create a corridor. Large developers have just been waiting for two-story zoning.
Don’t let anyone tell you this is a minor change. How can you keep Harborview Drive from big developers, big buildings and corridors in the middle of the street?
Gig Harbor citizens should say no to all proposed new zoning rules anywhere on Harborview Drive.
An online petition can be signed at www.thepetitionsite.com/640/648/073/citizens-for-thepreservation-of-gig-harbor-waterfront.
What we do not know for sure: Will the city council overturn the will of Gig Harbor citizens?
