The public and their pets are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the first off-leash dog park in unincorporated Pierce County.
The event, hosted by the Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One headquarters, 10222 Bujacich Road NW, Gig Harbor.
The community effort is a collaboration between the fire district, Peninsula School District, PenMet Parks, the Rotary club and CHEW, a dog-advocacy group.
The formal name, Rotary Dog Park, recognizes the support Rotary provided to PenMet Parks during the project.
Refreshments for dogs and their owners will be part of the event.
