Bellarmine Prep golfer and Gig Harbor native Alivia Brown just missed qualifying for match play at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship, shooting an 81 on day two and losing in a playoff in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 22-23.
Brown was near the top of the leaderboard for much of the tournament, and finished her first round with a two over 74.
Round two was a different story, however, as Brown struggled and a bogey on 18 gave her and 81 for the day, which caused her to drop into a 9-person playoff for the final spot in the 64 person match play event.
Brown stayed alive by parring the first two holes, but a close shot by Florida teenager Abbey Carlson lead to a tap in birdie and allowed her to take the final spot in the championship.
Brown won last year's 4A state championship, birdying the final playoff hole to take home the title. She also lead Bellarmine to the team championship, it's third straight in the classification.
