Gig Harbor native Kyle Stanley struggled in round one of The Open Championship at Muirfield Links in Scotland on Thursday morning, shooting an 82 and currently sitting in 151st place at 11 over par.
Stanley struggled from the start, triple bogeying the second hole and had double bogeys on the fourth and sixth. After parring the seventh and eighth holes, Stanley then doubled on No. 9, and ended up with a 46 for the front nine.
The former Bellamine Lion star was much better in the second half of his round, picking up just two bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes and picking up his first birdie of the round on No. 16; good for a back nine score of 36.
In order to make the cut, Stanley will have to finish in the top 70 scores with ties. Based on today's scores, Stanley will have to shoot somewhere in the mid-to-low 60's in order to advance.
