Dec. 12 — A man called police to report the theft of $2,700 through the cashing of a forged check. The man’s business was one of several that experienced ruptured water pipes. The business left its doors unlocked to allow contractors access to the building. A suspect was being sought at the time of the report.
Dec. 18 — A woman called 9-1-1 after she discovered a broken window at her work office. An unknown suspect appeared to have used a large rock to break a window to the office. A laptop computer and its accessories were stolen. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Dec. 19 — Police responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex on Stinson Avenue. No injuries were reported between the man and woman involved in the mutual pushing match. No arrests were made.
Dec. 21 — An officer on patrol came across a man who was rummaging through a Dumpster in the 6100 block of Soundview Drive. The man was detained and searched. Flashlights, “ninja rocks,” rubber gloves and heavy metal objects were found. The suspect admitted he had been prowling cars and that the items were tools he had been using.
Dec. 21 — Police recovered two children’s bicycles in the area of 10500 Harbor Hill Drive. The bikes were put into the evidence room at Gig Harbor police headquarters and hoped to return them to their owners. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Dec. 21 — Police issued a theft citation to a 23-year-old man who reportedly stole condoms from the Gig Harbor Safeway.
Dec. 18 — A deputy watched a driver in his 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck cross the solid center line in the 13700 block of Purdy Drive. The driver then struck a curb as he entered a business parking lot and parked. The man failed field sobriety tests and was detained at the Gig Harbor Police Department for tests of his blood-alcohol content. The man registered breath tests of 0.278 and 0.275, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08. The man was charged with DUI and issued tickets for an improper left turn and not having valid vehicle insurance. The man was taken home after he was processed.
Dec. 19 — A woman called 9-1-1 after she found pry marks on a set of French doors at her home. An unknown suspect apparently had pried the home’s dead bolt in an attempt to gain access to the home. The woman’s husband had been notified by the couple’s alarm company of an activation without any indication of motion inside the residence. The woman’s husband apparently told the alarm company to reset the alarm without notifying law enforcement. The couple found the evidence on their door after they returned home later in the day.
Dec. 20 — Deputies took a report from a woman who said someone stole a change jar and some alcohol from her home. The woman said change jars have been taken on multiple occasions. The woman told the responding deputy a neighbor boy may be behind the thefts. The woman said her son had once given the boy a ride somewhere, and the suspect had a lot of change at that time.
Dec. 21 — A man called 9-1-1 to report an apparent theft of a handgun and a coin jar from his home in Lakebay. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Dec. 22 — A deputy responded to a Fox Island home to take a report from a woman who said someone stole an inflatable carousel from her yard. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Dec. 22 — A Lakebay man who was hosting a party told a responding deputy that someone stole a bottle of Vicodin, a pain killer, from his home. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Dec. 23 — A deputy took a report from a man who believed someone had been stealing incoming mail from his mailbox. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Dec. 24 — A deputy responded to the 6900 block of Artondale Drive, where there had been a one-car accident. The driver of the vehicle and two passengers walked away with minor injuries after the driver reportedly swerved to avoid a deer. The driver lost control of his 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, crossed into the opposite lane of travel and landed in a ditch.
Dec. 26 — A man told deputies of an alleged break-in to his 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck. No signs of forced entry were found. Reported missing from a center console in the truck were a .40-caliber handgun and two ammunition magazines. The man told the responding deputy his brother-in-law may be a suspect. The victim said his brother-in-law hasn’t been seen for several months, and he owned the victim money.
