Gig Harbor

Car prowl

Dec. 15 — A man called police to report the theft of two sets of golf clubs and a pair of sun glasses from the man’s car at his home on Olympic Drive. The losses were valued at $650. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Copper wire theft

Dec. 15 — A police officer was flagged down by citizens in Gig Harbor North regarding an apparent vandalism of light standards in the 10300 block of Harbor Hill Drive. After the officer checked the area, another apparent theft of copper wiring was discovered. A recent theft of the same wires recently was investigated without nabbing a suspect. Gig Harbor Public Works crews replaced the first set of wiring for $1,200.

Intoxicated woman

Dec. 17 — Police responded to the Sunset Grill on Point Fosdick Drive for a male who reported being threatened with a knife. The man told the responding officer he was sitting in his car when an unknown woman approached him and asked what he was doing in the parking lot. The man asked the woman if she thought she was the parking police, and the woman replied yes. The woman then reportedly pulled out the knife and threatened him. The woman was later found at the Gig Harbor QFC parking lot, blocking a driveway. When police approached her, she told the officer she was just smoking. When the officer attempted to talk to her, she sped off through the parking lot in excess of 50 mph and created sparks when her vehicle bottomed out on sections of the roadway. The woman ran several stop signs and sped up Pioneer Way at 67 mph before she stopped at a gas station on Pioneer and Stinson Avenue, where she surrendered to police. After she was arrested, a search turned up a folding pocket knife. The woman matched the description from the incident at the Sunset Grill. The woman admitted drinking tequila and failed field sobriety tests and a blood-alcohol content test. The woman was booked into the Pierce County Jail on DUI, reckless driving and unlawful carrying and/or handling of a dangerous weapon.

Domestic violence

Dec. 19 — Gig Harbor police responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment. A woman victim was at home with her 3-year-old son, and her suspect boyfriend was reportedly intoxicated. The suspect reportedly confronted the woman in her bathroom, pushed her into the bathtub and threw personal grooming products at her. The man reportedly destroyed the apartment, including TV sets and windows, causing an estimated $3,000 worth of damage. The man also destroyed the woman’s cell phone when she attempted to call 9-1-1. The man had fled the scene before officers arrived. Police officers went to the suspect’s mother’s home to find him, but his mother reportedly was uncooperative. The suspect has five prior arrests for assault, burglary and liquor and drug violations. Warrant requests were filed with the Pierce County prosecutor’s office for first-degree malicious mischief, felony violation of a court-ordered protection order, fourth-degree domestic violence assault and interference in reporting of a domestic violence assault.

Pierce County

Vandalism

Dec. 9 — A man called deputies to report he suspected someone had poured sugar into his 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Mail box blown up

Dec. 10 — A Lakebay homeowner called deputies to report someone had blown up his mailbox, and the suspect had been driving a silver Honda with flip-style headlights. The responding deputy reported a fireworks smell was still in the air where the mailbox had stood. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Abandoned truck

Dec. 10 — A deputy responded to the 16900 block of state Route 302 for a reported hit-and-run accident. The deputy found a 1991 Ford F-150 pickup truck off the roadway ahead of tire tracks on the soft shoulder. The truck reportedly hit and destroyed a utility pole that disrupted service for three hours as Peninsula Light Company crews repaired the damage. The suspect was reportedly given a ride to a bar in Key Center by a man who said the suspect had an apparent head laceration and smelled of alcohol. The suspect reportedly gave the good samaritan his name, and it matched the registered owner of the abandoned truck. Deputies tried to find the man without success. The suspect has two outstanding warrants from Pierce County — one for negligent driving and the other for DUI.

Burglar nabbed

Dec. 11 — A woman called 9-1-1 to report a man she literally ran into after she came home with her young son. The woman told deputies the suspect was coming from her back yard after burglarizing her home. The woman took two cell phone pictures of the suspect, one as he walked passed her and the other as he fled the scene in his 1985 Jeep Cherokee. The suspect was pulled over and arrested a short time later. In plain view was jewelry and $120 in cash that appeared to have been stolen. The man was booked into the Pierce County jail on theft charges, and his Jeep was impounded on a search warrant to collect evidence. The woman’s photos also were downloaded as evidence.

Van stolen

Dec. 13 — A couple who attended a Christmas party at a friend’s home was shocked when they discovered someone had stolen their 2008 Hyundai van filled with Christmas presents and the couple’s wallet and purse. The couple finished loading the van at 1 a.m. and returned to where the vehicle had last been seen 15 minutes later only to discover it was gone. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Jeep stolen

Dec. 13 — Deputies responded to a reported vehicle theft at a home. The male homeowner said he returned home the previous night and didn’t see the Jeep Liberty his daughter had been driving. The next morning, the man asked his daughter where the Jeep was. She said it had been parked at their home since 9 p.m. the previous night. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Mail thefts

Dec. 14 — Three different reports were taken by deputies after a rash of mail thefts which occurred on 44th Avenue, 62nd Street and 149th Street. A similar theft occurred the next day on 154th Street. At the time of the reports, it was unknown if the thefts were connected.

Burglary charges

Dec. 15 — A deputy who responded to a residential alarm found three suspects — two men and a woman — near a car stuck in the mud by the home. The homeowner was not home at the time and reportedly was unaware the suspects were there. One man said he had gotten stuck in the mud and the group had been at the scene for several hours. The man also told deputies his cell phone wasn’t working, and that prompted him to break into the home to call for help. After a search was conducted, one of the men was found to have a pipe in his possession. All three were booked into the Pierce County Jail on residential burglary charges, and one also was booked on an outstanding warrant.
