Brown graduates from officer candidate school

Kelly E. Brown has graduated from officer candidate school at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Brown is a son of Eugene A. and Diane C. Brown of Cottonwood, Calif. His wife, Faithe, is a daughter of Larry C. and Jeanne Mote of Olalla.

Asplund returns to states after overseas deployment

Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Kyle J. Asplund has returned to the United States after he was deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Asplund is a civil affairs specialist and a member of the 413th Civil Affairs Battalion in Lubbock, Texas. He has served in the military for more than seven years.

He is a son of Grant R. Asplund of Longview and Catherine M. Keri of Maple Valley. His wife, Crystal, is a daughter of William J. Cooper Jr. of Maple Valley and Wendy Cooper of Gig Harbor.

He graduated from Tahoma High School in Maple Valley in 2003.
