Communities In Schools of Peninsula held its first donor “thank you” event last Thursday.
More than 40 supporters were treated to a special showing of the classic movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” at Galaxy Theatres.
CISP President Gerry Baldwin thanked former president Connie Rose for her service to the group with a gift certificate from her colleagues.
“To the regret of us all,” Baldwin said, Rose is leaving the board.
CISP Vice President Wayne Harris, manager of the Gig Harbor Costco, announced a contribution of $10,000 to support CISP’s programs within the Peninsula School District. He personally contributed a substantial amount of the total.
Prior to the movie, Tanner Peavy, a sixth-grader at Harbor Ridge Middle School who stars as “Oliver” in an upcoming Encore! Theatre production, belted out a few songs.
Peavy had been released momentarily from rehearsal by director Kathy McGilliard to perform for CISP. “Oliver” will open Nov. 20.
“The evening was our way of thanking those who have given so generously to sustain our work,” said Colleen Speer, CISP’s executive director.
