Tides volleyball team wins Narrows League tournament

The Gig Harbor volleyball team beat Olympia last Saturday in the Narrows League tournament championship at Mount Tahoma High School in five games, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12.

The Tides earned the No. 1 seed for the West Central District tournament, which will be played at Kentwood High School. Gig Harbor will face off against Rogers of Puyallup at 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

GH girls soccer team falls to SK, plays for district seed

The Gig Harbor girls soccer team lost to South Kitsap 1-0 in overtime on Saturday at Mount Tahoma Stadium.

Gig Harbor was set to play Stadium after press time on Tuesday for either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed to the West Central District tournament.

If the Tides beat the Tigers, they would host the South Puget Sound League’s No. 4 seed at 1 p.m. Saturday at Art Crate Stadium at Bethel High School for the No. 6 seed to the Class 4A state tournament.

If Gig Harbor lost to Stadium, it would play the SPSL No. 3 seed at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel for the No. 5 seed to the state tournament.

Both Saturday games are loser-out.

GH Baseball Sports Academy to hold winter lessons

The Gig Harbor Baseball and Sports Academy will offer winter programs in November and December. The cost is $250.

The following list includes days and times for ages 13-18 and 9-12.

Ages 13-18 with Dave Myers: 7:45 to 9 p.m.

Ages 9-12 with Jon Fuller: 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

The dates are Nov. 17, 19, 24 and Dec. 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17 and 22.

Winter ball hitting, speed and core strengthening will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Eric Bloyd will be conducting pitching lessons on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays.

PAA offices move to Gig Harbor Boys & Girls Club

The Peninsula Athletic Association offices have moved to the Jim and Carolyn Milgard Family HOPE Center, 8502 Skansie Ave. in Gig Harbor.

The PAA mailing address will continue to be: P.O. Box 1220, Gig Harbor, WA 98335.

Some upcoming programs include the youth basketball. The cost is $105 for boys and girls in grades three through 12.

Registration forms will be available for an expanded first- and second-grade basketball program that will be played at the Boys & Girls Club.

Also, indoor soccer for grades one through six will be played on Saturdays and Sundays. Sessions will begin Nov. 21. All games will be played at the Gig Harbor Athletic Club’s indoor arena. The cost is $75.

Disc golf course now open at KP’s Volunteer Park

A disc golf course is now available at Volunteer Park on the Key Peninsula.

Participants can test their throwing and putting skills through different challenges and obstacles. Discs are available for rent at the park office during business hours.
