Oct. 9 — A woman called police to report the break in and theft of items from her vehicle parked at a local chain store. The woman had left her door unlocked for the thief to take a jacket, a $20 bill and a MP-3 player from the vehicle. No suspect was known to police who will be reviewing store surveillance recordings in an attempt to identify and nab the suspect.
Oct. 10 — A man called police from the Stanich dock after discovering his pick-up truck had been unlawfully accessed by an unknown suspect who stole a GPS unit, a radar detector, an MP-3 player, tools and a tool belt, an amplifier and sub-woofer speaker components for the truck’s stereo.
Oct. 12 — An officer on patrol stopped a driver in the 8600 block of Skansie Blvd. for expired vehicle license tabs. The odor of marijuana alerted the officer who detained the driver. Marijuana was found in a jar with a total weight of 389 grams. The suspect told the officer that he had recently been fishing on a river near the Department of Natural resources forest land and had stumbled upon marijuana plants growing in the brush. The man told the officer that he had recently split from his wife and thought the discovery was a stroke of good fortune. Also found in the vehicle were shotgun shells and .22 caliber rifle rounds without the weapons. Six $20 bills were also booked into evidence after the man was booked into the Pierce County jail on four felony counts of drug possession.
Oct. 21 — A woman employee of a local pet store called 9-1-1 after a kitten was stolen from the store by a 15-year-old teenage girl. Police nabbed the cat-napper near the store. Several conflicting stories were given to the officers as to how the cat caper had actually transpired. The girl was arrested for the theft and cited for a minor in possession of cigarettes. The young lady was released to a family member and charges were forwarded to Remann Hall Juvenile Detention facility in Tacoma for possible charges.
Oct. 16 — A man called 9-1-1 to report the unauthorized use of his credit union issued credit card. The card was used to purchase two American Airlines tickets, charges to Knott’s Berry farm, Six Flags Amusement park and to a local insurance firm for travel insurance. The charges in total came to $1700. The victim called the insurance carrier and was told that an area woman and man named “Claudette” and “Thurston had been listed as the travel insurance beneficiaries. The victim man is unsure how the suspect obtained his card information saying that he had used his card at a local restaurant prior to the fraud.
Oct. 18 — An area man told deputies of a vandalism to his 1995 Toyota 4-Runner truck by an unknown suspect. The man’s vehicle suffered a broken windshield after a pumpkin was thrown at the truck. No suspect was known to the victim who believes that a passing motorist who screamed “Slow down” as he passed may be behind the vandalism.
Oct. 18 — A male victim called 9-1-1 to report the stripping and apparent theft of a Blue Acura 4-door car. The victim’s story was confusing as to what had happened to the vehicle. The car was stripped of all valuable parts including the car doors. A call later after the initial report brought out firefighters for what appeared to be an accelerant fed torching of the car. Investigators are still sorting out the caper with no current suspect information at the time of the report.
Oct. 18 — Deputies took a report from a man using a military deployed friend’s Chevy S-S10 pick-up truck. The friend told deputies that he had placed the deployed friend’s .40 caliber automatic handgun and iPod into the truck the night before the alleged theft. When the friend went to use the vehicle the next day he discovered the gun and MP-3 player missing from the truck. There were no signs of forced entry to the truck by the unknown suspect.
Oct. 19 — A woman homeowner reported that her home and on-site travel trailer had been shot up by paint balls. She told deputies that the suspect may be a neighbor boy’s retaliation for the victim’s report to his mom after a speeding vehicle incident.
Oct. 20 — Deputies took a report from a woman who has been receiving 32-plus phone calls from an unknown suspect. The woman will be using the star-57 option on her phone to notify the phone carrier of any future harassing calls.
Oct. 21 — An alert deputy ran a routine Department of Motor Vehicles check on a green Honda car which turned up a suspended drivers license status for the registered owner. After making contact with driver, the scent of marijuana was detected by the deputy. After detaining the driver, a search found a marijuana pipe on the driver’s person and a set of nun chuck martial arts weaponry in the back seat. A beer was found in the cup holder of the car as well. The suspect was booked into the Pierce county jail on second degree driving while license is suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a dangerous weapon and minor in possession of alcohol.
Oct. 22 — Deputies responded to the intersection of Fillmore and Wollochet Drives for a three-car accident. A man at the scene was identified as the driver who caused the crash. The suspect driver and a separate victim driver were transported to an area hospital for unspecified injuries. The first driver, who had caused the accident, was cited for third-degree driving while his license was suspended, speed unsafe for road conditions and failure to provide valid vehicle insurance. The man’s vehicle was impounded by deputies.
