Coldwater Creek at Uptown Gig Harbor will use the fabric of its fashions to try to weave a thread of hope into the tapestry of the fight against cancer.

The clothing store will host its semi-annual “Try It On for the Cure” fundraiser Sept. 13 to benefit the local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Each time a customer tries on an item of clothing during the one-day event, the store will donate $1 toward the search for a cure.

In addition, the store will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

“We do this twice a year, and it’s always gone very well,” said Lynette Torres, the manager of the Gig Harbor store. “We get a great response from our customers. The more that come in and try on, the more we donate.

“It’s a great way to contribute, and it doesn’t come out of the customers’ pockets.”

The store will offer beverages and snacks and free five-minute massages.

“We’ll have a little fashion show so people can see what’s new,” Torres said. “It’s going to be a party. Come in and bring your friends.”

During the company’s nationwide event last April, Coldwater Creek donated more than $100,000 to Susan G. Komen affiliates.

The company has participated in “Try It On for the Cure” for five years.

Coldwater Creek is a nationwide retailer that specializes in women’s apparel, gifts, jewelry and accessories.

It has more than 350 stores nationwide, including Gig Harbor and Tacoma.

The company also sells merchandise through catalogs and at www.coldwatercreek.com.
