Editorial: Enjoy unique ‘Rock on’ event

Downtown Gig Harbor businesses are not waiting around for the recession to end. A group of active community members got together to kick-start their own “downtown atmosphere” this month by bringing about a blast from the past.

Rock on, Gig Harbor! is the result of hard work and a collaborative effort between local business owners to have an event that the public can enjoy, and it’s both unique and fun. Retailers and restaurants jumped on the bandwagon to bring food, music, cars and the lifestyle of the 1950s to the waterfront.

From carhop waitresses at Kelly’s Restaurant to Cherry Coke and fries, the event will culminate Aug. 15 in a dance contest at Seasons by the Bay.

In trying economic times, it’s nice to see local business owners work together to not only entertain the public but also try to stimulate businesses in the downtown core. We encourage you to the festivities to truly create an atmosphere of the good ol’ days.
