The 25th annual Gig Harbor Summer Art Festival will showcase the work of more than 125 artists and craftspeople from throughout the Northwest on Saturday and Sunday.

Sponsored by the Peninsula Art League, the event will be held on Judson Street in Gig Harbor’s historic Waterfront District.

“This year’s jurors selected an outstanding group of artists who work in wide variety of mediums and techniques,” said Carol Valstyn, organizer of the Festival. “We have painters, sculptors, woodworkers, jewelry designers, stained glass and fabric artists, to name a few.”

One of the wildlife artists featured will be Luke Filmer of Blackwater Fish Replicas. Filmer blends his love of art and angling to create one-of-a-kind marine art in the form of fiberglass fish sculptures depicted in their natural habitat.

For the angler who wants to preserve the memory of his or her catch of a lifetime, all that is needed is a photograph and measurements of the fish to immortalize the moment.

Proceeds from the festival provide art scholarships for PAL members and talented high school students.

Concurrent with the festival, PAL will present an exhibition of art by its members at a nearby Key Bank branch. Key Bank is a sponsor of the event. The reception and awards presentation will be at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The event is free to the public. Free shuttle buses will transport festival-goers from the Gig Harbor Medical Pavilion on Kimball Drive to the site.
