After they beat the Kentridge Chargers to advance to the Class 4A state soccer tournament, the Gig Harbor Tides boys soccer team was eliminated last weekend in a 2-1 loss to Marysville-Pilchuk at Lake Stevens.
Marysville-Pilchuck won the shootout 3-1.
Tides sophomore Robby Ubben scored Gig Harbor’s only goal, but it wasn’t enough.
It was the second time in the Tides’ last four matches that they lost in a shootout.
The Class 4A and 3A state golf tournaments begin today, and the top 40 advance to the championship round for the final 18 holes.
Four Gig Harbor players — two boys, two girls — will head to Eastern Washington for the 4A tournaments.
Tides freshman Christie Drumm, who won the West Central District tourney, and senior BreAnne Toigo will travel to Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
For the boys, Gig Harbor junior Max Jiganti and freshman Nick Larson will compete in Kennewick at Canyon Lakes Golf Course.
Meanwhile, the Peninsula boys and girls golfers return after an eight-month break to compete at the 3A tournament.
The Seahawks boys will send seniors Chris Bean, Kevin Keiter and junior Joey McNelis to Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.
Peninsula junior Christian Letts is a second alternate for state.
The Peninsula girls advanced two to state tourney at Horn Rapids Golf Club in Richland.
Freshman Rachel Lewis and junior Anna Heacox will compete for a spot in the top 40.
