The Gig Harbor Civic Center was jumping with talent Thursday night as artists gathered for a reception sponsored by the Peninsula Art League. Artists wandered from painting to painting, admiring each other’s work and getting to know one another.
The art, which was judged for acceptance and awarded with ribbons during the reception, will be on display through Nov. 12 at 3510 Grandview St.
Lynda Lindner won first place for a portrait of her granddaughter, “Sarah.” Second place was awarded to George Milliken for his watercolor, “Peggy’s Cove.” Kari Tirrell, an artist who opened her studio to the public during last month’s Open Studio Tour, won the “Best in Show” award for her painting of her yellow lab, “Chassis.” The third-place award went to Cal Capener for his portrait of “Karina.”
“The comments at the reception were all about what a good show it was,” said Ronnie Schneeman, publicity chairman for PAL. “The paintings were top quality, and there was great variety.”
The show was juried by accomplished artists Joe MacKechnie and Dan Riley. Both are members of the Northwest Watercolor Society.
Nan Feagin and Cecile Anderson acted as co-chairs for the event, and Charli Meacham was in charge of PAL-sponsored workshops.
