KP Lions to host public forums twice a month

The Key Peninsula Lions Club will sponsor bi-monthly public speaker forums at its general meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Key Peninsula Civic Center’s VFW Room. Admission is free.

The club will host public defender Andrew Morrison on Sept. 2; state Rep. Jan Angel, R-Port Orchard, on Sept. 16; Pierce County Council member Terry Lee, R-Gig Harbor, on Oct. 7; and state Rep. Larry Seaquist, D-Gig Harbor, on Nov. 18.

Communities in Schools to host mentor training

Communities In Schools of Peninsula will be conducting orientation and training for interested volunteer mentors on Sept. 23rd.

The discussion will center around the overall process of becoming a mentor, and volunteers will have an opportunity to learn more about the reading or math programs.

CISP will offer mentor programs at eight Peninsula School District sites this fall for students in first through eighth grades.
