Shoemaker joins Board of Examiners

John Shoemaker of American Informatics, Inc., in Gig Harbor, was appointed to the 2009 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award by Dr. Patrick Gallagher, Deputy Director of the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The award, created by public law in 1987, is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive.

As an examiner, Shoemaker is responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications submitted for the award.

Those selected meet the highest standards of qualification and peer recognition.

All members of the board must take part in a preparation course based on the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and the scoring and evaluation processes for the Baldrige Award.

Kitsap Bank refuses TARP fund

Kitsap Bank has turned down TARP funding from the U.S. Treasury Department.

Olympic Bancorp, the holding company for Kitsap Bank, was approved to receive up to $21 million through the Treasury’s Capital Purchase Program.

Federal regulators chose Kitsap Bank to assume all deposits and bank operations from failed Westsound Bank of Bremerton in May.

As a result, Kitsap Bank’s assets total more than $1 billion, putting the bank among the 600 largest in the country.

Kitsap Bank is the largest community bank on the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas and has been named a Preferred Lender by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
