Most homeowners want their yards and lawns to look beautiful. But in doing so, some runoff associated with fertilizers and other lawn-care can be deadly to the environment.

Bio Green distributors hope to end that cycle of destruction with their eco-friendly product.

“It has no phosphorous and is low in nitrogen,” said Steve Morberg, co-owner of the distributorship that serves Pierce County. “It’s very available to the soil — whatever you’re spraying is absorbed right away.”

Bio Green provides complete nutrition for the lawn and garden to promote its health and beauty while maintaining pests.

The product is sprayed directly onto lawns, trees and shrubs and is being used to beautify landscaping at schools, churches, homes, parks, golf courses and public buildings.

“It generally has low-leaching properties, so it is environmentally safe,” Morberg said. “All the ingredients are food-grade and can be used in environmentally sensitive areas.”

Morberg said a truck regularly serves Gig Harbor and other Pierce County areas.

The ingredients in the spray incorporate a balance of nutrients, soil microbes and bacteria essential for healthy growth.

It does not contain phosphates, which are potentially harmful to the environment and water resources.

Morberg and his two partners, Bob and Kevin Underwood, became licensed to distribute Bio Green in March.

Bio Green is a nationwide company.

“We’re a partner with the USDA, and they are using it on their lawn in Washington, D.C.,” Morberg said. “There’s no job too big or too small. We hope to get into commercial and public venues in the area.”

Morberg said local distributors are interested in offering their services to hydro seeders, turf farms, and farmers who want to “go natural.”

Bio Green uses micro nutrients which occur naturally in undepleted soil, including nitrogen, potash, sulfur and iron. It also includes potassium, sulfur, iron, manganese and zinc.

Nutrients like potassium and sulfur improve plant disease resistance and growth, while iron and manganese promotes maturity and green color.

“We would like to market to nurseries, home improvement stores and golf courses,” Morberg said. “The sky’s the limit.”
