Art Walk planned this Saturday

Two galleries will hold celebrations, open houses

The First Saturday Art Walk will begin at 1 p.m. this Saturday. Visitors can pick up an Art Walk map and passport at any participating gallery to be eligible to win a $50 gift certificate.

The May gift certificate will be donated by Gallery Row.

Larry Poplack of Olympia won the April prize, which was donated by Birdnest Gallery & Framing.

Some galleries will also hold individual artist demonstrations until 5 p.m. Both Ebb Tide Gallery and Gallery Row will hold celebrations during the Art Walk.

Here is the complete schedule:

Ebb Tide Gallery, 7809 Pioneer Way in Gig Harbor, 253-851-5293 — This gallery will feature all of its artists in celebration of the Grand Opening for a new location on Pioneer Way, just behind the decorative iron gate and the statue of Neptune in Neptune’s Court.

The gallery will also hold a reception from 3 to 7 p.m. See page 2D for more information.

Gallery Row, 3102 Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor, 253-851-6020 — There will be birthday cake at Gallery Row during the Art Walk to celebrate the gallery’s 19th year.

Gallery Row, which is artist-owned and operated, will feature artists Sandy Newhouse and Mary Bessette throughout the month.

Newhouse, a watercolor, acrylic and collage artist, has been showing paintings at the gallery since it opened. She will also demonstrate her painting skills during the Art Walk.

Bessette works in glass art, 3-D glass sculptures and fused glass jewelry, and she’s inspired by the patterns and textures that she sees in nature. She will also demonstrate her techniques during the Art Walk.

Kit Kuhn — A Jeweler Designed For You, 3104 Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor, 253-851-5546 — The gallery will feature gold earrings handcrafted with Citrene Briolettes.

Water’s Edge Gallery & Framery, Inc., 7808 Pioneer Way in Gig Harbor, 253-858-7449 — Jim Nelson’s photography will be featured.

Birdnest Gallery & Framing, 7716 Pioneer Way, Suite A in Gig Harbor, 253-857-6341 — Cathy Street’s watercolors will be featured.

Harbor Gallery, 3177 Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor, 253-851-8626 — Laura Jacobson’s oils will be featured.
