The Gig Harbor Tides fastpitch team continued to struggle last week, falling to the North Kitsap Vikings 12-3 in a Class 4A Narrows League Bridge Division matchup.
The Vikings (3-7 overall, 3-4 Narrows League Bridge Division) scored three runs through the five innings, then pounded seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on three more to secure the victory.
The Tides (3-7, 2-5 Narrows Bridge) have lost three straight, including a mercy-rule defeat against the Stadium Tigers (7-0 overall and Narrows Bay Division).
Gig Harbor had difficulty putting hits together against Stadium as Liz Getty and Mickelle Oslin were the only batters to reach base successfully.
It was a much closer game against the Foss Falcons, but the Tides came up one run short, falling 3-2.
Against Foss, Gig Harbor’s KJ Johnson went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Courtney Dignam went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Foss scored twice in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. The Tides committed three errors, contributing to the Falcons’ runs.
The Wilson Rams (6-0, 5-0 Narrows Bridge) are atop the Bridge Division standings, followed by South Kitsap (3-2 Narrows Bridge). Gig Harbor is in third place.
The Tides travel to play the Olympia Bears (2-4, 1-2 Narrows Bay) on Monday.
After a few matches were canceled in late March and early April because of rain, the Peninsula Seahawks boys golfers beat their crosstown rival Gig Harbor Tides 147-121 in an 18-hole match last week at Canterwood Golf & Country Club.
Gig Harbor won the girls match, 92-55.
The Peninsula boys continued to demonstrate their dominance, remaining undefeated since last year.
The Seahawks’ Joey McNelis and Chad Finlay were co-medalists, each shooting 76.
