The Nemesis girls 16-and-under fastpitch team placed second in the United States Specialty Sports Association state championships last month in Kent and Federal Way.
The Nemesis won five of seven games in a weekend. They lost their second game and were forced to battle through the consolation bracket.
The state tournament was an opportunity for many girls who play for the Gig Harbor or Peninsula high school teams a chance to gain additional practice during the summer.
Third baseman Natalie Getty, who plays for Gig Harbor’s varsity squad, hit a home run in the first game. Hannah Crawford of Peninsula High School was the team’s ace throughout the tournament, and she hit a triple in the opening round.
The Nemesis has players who range in age from 13 to 16. They are coached by James Getty.
The team will hold tryouts on Sunday. Those who are interested may e-mail Getty at james@gettycomputers.com.
The Nemesis 16U will be hosting tryouts for the upcoming season at the Peninsula High School fastpitch field today from 6 to 8 p.m and Aug. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m.
