Taylor Indahi, Kelvin Richards, Alex Coffaro and Danielle Ellis secured a Class 4A state bid in the 200-yard medley relay last week to lead the Gig Harbor Tides past the Foss Falcons 147-32 in a Narrows League swim meet.
The medley relay team finished in 1 minute, 56.56 seconds and highlighted several event winners.
Gig Harbor’s Yasi Fardi won the 200 freestyle in 2:08.51 while Collen Sullivan won the 200 individual medley in 2:25.72. In the 50 free, Heide Luong won in 26.59.
In the diving portion, the Tides’ Peyton Hunter won with 143.95 points.
Coffaro added a win in the 100 fly in 1:02.95, and Sullivan won the 500 free in 5:27.38.
Ellis, Richards, Fardi and Coffaro won the 200 free relay in 1:45.52, while Ellis, Sullivan Fardi and Coffaro combined to win the 400 free relay in 3:53.52.
In other individual events, Luong won the 100 backstroke (1:07.74) and Indahl took first in the 100 breast (1:10.93).
Peninsula Seahawks cross country runner David Lee set a boys course record in a multiple-dual meet at McCormick Forest Park in Gig Harbor in 17 minutes, 32 seconds, as the Peninsula boys varsity defeated Auburn Mountainview 21-39.
The Class 3A Seahawks team are currently ranked seventh, according to www.watfxc.com.
Against Sumner, the varsity boys won 18-45 and were also flawless against against Timberline with a perfect 15-50 score.
The first three runners in the boys varsity race were under the old record of 17:58 held by Quinton Decker of Port Townsend in 2007.
Hillary Norris of Sumner set a course record for girls in 21:09. The girls scored a perfect 15 points and defeated Auburn-Mountainview 15-50. They also had a perfect score against Timberline and won 15-50. Their only loss came against Sumner 32-23.
The Gig Harbor cross country team won in the boys and girls competitions last week in a double dual against Shelton and South Kitsap at Huff and Puff Trail across from Shelton High School.
The Class 4A Tides girls team is currently ranked first and the boys are ranked fourth behind Mead, Eisenhower and top-ranked Jackson.
For the boys, Tides freshman Casey Peloquin placed second with a time of 16 minutes, 50.10 seconds. The Tides took the top five of the six best times in the double dual.
Joe Gagliano placed third at 16:57.30, Jeffrey Robinson fourth with 17:14.30, Seth Johnson fifth 17:22.50 and Luke Hoffman at 17:28.70 respectively.
For the girls, sophomore Danie Moon won the event with a time of 20:14.40 and sophomore Maureen Tremblay finished second at 20:17.50, respectively.
Rounding out the top six was senior Rachel Seibert, who landed fourth with a time of 20:21.20.
The Gig Harbor boys tennis team swept the Lincoln Abes 5-0 last week at home.
Tides No. 1 singles player Conner Morningstar defeated Toby Nguyen 6-0, 6-0, and Mike Junge, Gig Harbor’s No. 2 singles player, defeated Daniel Nguyen 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Grant Dahl and Jasper Vaughn of Gig Harbor defeated Blake Wheeler and Phackdey Sok 6-0, 6-0.
The Tides’ Eric Gruver and Blake Erikson earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Erik Olson and Christian Reeves-McMillen.
And the Tides’ No. 3 doubles team, Thad Berg and Jordan Jacobson, defeated Sean Baril and Vyra Saran, 6-0, 6-0.
Amber Meyers and Haley Erickson recorded seven kills each to lead the Gig Harbor Tides in a 3-0 sweep of the Lincoln Abes, 25-9, 25-11, 25-11.
Gig Harbor’s Taylor Robinson had 10 digs and Samantha North added 15 assists.
Meanwhile, the Peninsula Seahawks’ Kayla Erickson had eight blocks and seven kills, and Carly Crane had 20 kills, but Peninsula dropped a 3-0 match with the Capital Cougars, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21.
Peninsula (1-0 league, 3-5 overall) is tied for first in the Class 3A South Puget Sound League with Sumner and Bonney Lake.
The Peninsula Sehawks boys team won a close tennis match against North Thurston 3-2.
The Seahawks’ team hasn’t lost a match in the Class 3A South Puget Sound League.
Peninsula’s No. 1 tennis player Lance Wilhelm faced a tough match but came out on top defeating D. Schuster 7-6,6-4.
Seahawks No. 2 tennis player Kev D’Olivo defeated Q. Laiter 6-1,6-2
In doubles competition, North Thurston controlled two of the three matches.
In the No. 1 doubles match, N. Das/E. Appel of North Thurston defeated T. Findlay/M. Lee 6-3,6-4. And North Thurston’s E. Wdguirant/Hua defeated A. Vezzani/K. Perkins 7-5,6-2.
The No. 3 doubles match was the deciding factor to keep the Seahawks winning streak alive. Peninsula’s C. Hsu/H. Johns defeated P. Dion/N. Armstrong 6-3,6-1.
